Missing bolt in 1970's Anshutz 1441/42 .22LR

Hi everyone,

I am only new to this forum after introducing myself the other day. I have been taking steps towards doing some shooting at the rifle range and recently got my firearms licence.

I'm currently saving for a rifle though I'm on a bit of a budget as I have a tendency to change my hobbies regularly

My father has an old 1970's Anshutz 1441/42 .22LR but the bolt has been lost at some point and he has no idea where. A few internet searches have turned up nothing and it seems like it's not an easy fix.

Just wondering if there is any viable avenue to source a replacement? Even if it's not cost effective for now it would nice to keep it in the family...

you know when you walk around gun show there are tables of parts and stuff you don,t need at that time a few shows ago a young bloke from Victoria was at a show in sydney i got his card all that was on it was his name Scott's and a phone number 0354484725 and i have written on the card if ever looking for a bolt if i remember right he had quite a few give him a ring

So I'm assuming the only avenue is to search for an old bolt from the same model then have a gunsmith fit and check it?

I haven't had any luck getting through to that number as yet. It seems to go straight to an answering machine but the lady who has recorded the message does say who I have reached.

I would think the same bolt is used in more than just the one model.
But trying to make any sense at all of Anschutz's model numbering is far beyond my abilities.
It's probably even possible to adapt a completely different bolt to work in it.

I spent some hours trying to dig up information on my brother's Anschutz 64MS and found a lot more conflicting opinions than any factual information. It might be that there are Anschutz forums around nowadays that might be more helpful.
You could try starting on Rimfirecentral.com as they're one of the biggest rimfire forums.

Another question... If I found one overseas what is the process to to have it sent here?

You'll need a B709 import permit from the Police.
Then you just need to convince the seller to send it overseas, which is becoming more and more difficult.

If you have a B709 to allow you to import it then there's no problem at your end. Even without an import permit, usually Customs would simply grab it and ask you to organise a B709.
But there are potential problems for Americans exporting firearm parts, particularly if it breaches ITAR requirements.
As long as they understand and comply with export requirements then there's no problems.

I ended up buying another old 1451 anshütz with a compatible bolt... Apparently I need to get the headspacing checked but hopefully give it a crack at the range next weekend and see how she goes. If it shoots well I'll prob start saving for a Lithgow in .223 if not maybe another .22. Thanks to everyone for their time and advice

Well done getting another bolt and rifle, could you rebarrel the other Anschutz in something different like 17 hmr and use the same bolt in both?
A friend of mine lost his bolt and put an add on used guns, he got three offers in a week.
