Seriously though I think the scope is by far the easiest component of the rifle to damage due to glass etc, and so far I've had no problems with anything, it's quite beaten up though.
Edit: I think it is definitely possible to hurt your rifle by dropping it, however unlikely.

Nope, if it has a wooden stock it is the easiest thing in the world to crack the heel or wrist, I fit recoil pads even to my .22's, not for recoil but simply to save the wood.
