Trelley's in Bendigo had APS650 in 500g lots, if I remember rightly (2 weeks ago) it was just under $ 100 per 500g. They had, but had sold out, of 2Kg and I noted they had a container (largeish) behind the counter for a customer who had ordered earlier (possibly 4lb) of Alliant Red Dot.

So they do make the 500g !

I mentioned the price I saw which was $210 and was told we paid more than that for it, I suspect old mate is at Oz gunmart is Gas lighting shooters as even 1kg of regular ADI is now $160kg

just rang horsley park ,,they had it and its gone 350 for 1.5kg
i asked why so much considering the cost of other adi powder and was told it was because of the CANT GET IT TAX !!
yeah i recon they are taking the piss ,but it just depends on how much you want it i suppose

Cleavers has a high turnover, despite being out of the Bne area for most people, because they bit the bullet earlier on and discounted the gear they sell to get people in, suffering in profits initially. As more customers came, this allowed them big buying power with suppliers to get stuff in cheaper and cheaper in larger quantities.
Then instead of selling gear at rec retail or copying the others prices, despite getting gear in cheaper, they sell cheaper wherever they can.
Jade is a smart businessman, doing only what smart business people do in a very tight, restrictive market.

The result is two-fold - wherever I travel looking at breeding stock or products, I pop into local shops to buy something and overwhelmingly I hear how much this smart commercialism causes hatred and jealousy from other businesses. Really counter-productive.
The second thing is, no sure how many people know this but customers come on multi-day trips to this business and buy whole ute loads of stuff for their farms and businesses because of this. We do the same.
The wives go into town shopping for wife stuff, and the boys go to Cleavers and have a countery afterwards. And we all benefit. Including the everyday local customers.

I bought most of my ADI powders during 2015-2019, all from the same dealer. All the rifle powders (AR) were the same per-kilo price in 500g and 4kg bottles. All of the pistol/shotgun powders (AP/AS) were the same prices in 1kg bottles. I didn't buy their .50BMG powder as I didn't have any use for it so it's possible that could have been a different price (I didn't buy BM1 or BM2 either but I can't see any reason they would be different). I met a guy locally this week that has to travel to Mildura to shoot his BMG rifle, apparently it has restrictions similar to CatH in where he is allowed to use it.

Whether other dealers had different pricing I can't say. I did buy some more powders early in covid from my current dealer after my previous dealer closed his shop, I don't recall the prices but I don't recall them being horrendous. I have really only dealt with two dealers locally since I arrived in Vic.

Cleaver's prices was one of the reasons my previous dealer gave me for closing his shop down, he was fed up with everybody expecting him to sell for Cleaver's prices. When he found almost every customer wanted to haggle over pricing he decided it was time to get out. My suggestion, if you prefer somebody else's prices simply go visit them and do your shopping there instead of bothering your locals.

Just buy enough that you're still ahead after you pay for your fuel and go for the drive. I've been toying with a 3600km round trip as I would save so much that I'd be hundreds of dollars ahead on ammo prices. For about $330 in fuel I only need to buy two cases of ammo to be ahead, if I buy ten I'm way in front.

I believe that the founding moto of the Woolworth's (originally a north American empire) was "Pile it high, and sell it cheap".
A high turn-over, along with a smaller profit margin just might be a better business model than the one which many would describe as "price gouging?

It worked for them. It works for those who know how to make people pull out their wallets.

When travelling the country I heard repeatedly about the "I'm closing down because I can't match Cleavers" excuses. Even if these businesses are 1000-2000km away, they still crap on about this. It's just an excuse for poor or amateur business decisions.

Saving $5-10/100 on primers, $40/bottle for powder, or $150 on a Howa rifle at Cleavers in Qld isn't really going to steal business in Vic for example, because when you add the DG costs, fuel or dealer transfers charged, it's only really applicable to people close enough or organised enough to take advantage of this Redcliffe business.
Blaming Cleavers for a shrinking market, deliberately driven by political intent and narcissistic police public servants is ridiculous. But it's easy for non achievers to blame others.

As a Vic customer I have purchased heaps of gun stuff from cleavers to save money even new guns. Also still went ahead with purchases from them after asking local shops to match prices. A few said they pay more than I was quoted and to buy it from them so I did.

Anything I can get in the mail, I order too. Paying $20 post is well worth it compared to fuel.
Time is also worth a lot of money, people forget that easily. I suppose it depends if you have spare time at all!

But I order stuff from firearms businesses all over the country by mail order, because one store can't stock everything.
