gun on plane

Post by alexjones » 07 Mar 2025, 11:10 am

Have a look at this. A 17 year old in Melbourne Avalon airport boarded a plane with a shotgun and went into the cockpit but was tackled by the pilot. They said he climbed through a hole in the security fence. Crazy

Typical day in Victoria.

I had one druggo thrown off the train, stepped over human refuse on Elizabeth St.

Place has gone to dogs thanks to the coof and bankruptcy.

Full marks to those who tackled this idiot and held onto him until the authorities arrived. Not sure what Chuckles means by bankruptcy,
though.

Hey just saw on SKY he was dropped by a bloke called Gazza, he is a shearer. Typical awesome country bloke.
Apparently, he's been given a heap of free flights on Jetstar now. Albo-coward should give him a bravery medal.

I want to know more information about the shotgun. Has anybody seen photos? What kind was it?

I'm pretty sure I saw an under and over shotgun lying on the floor of the plane this morning. The barrels had been separated from the action. I think the shearer pulled the gun apart from talk on it, other reports were it was in pieces and hadn't been assembled. Maybe it wasn't a double, but it sure looked like it.

I once flew with my firearm, and the process was surprisingly smooth—but only because I researched everything in advance. Declared it at check-in, locked it in a hard case, and followed all TSA rules. The weird part? When I landed, my bag with the gun wasn’t on the carousel. Had a mini heart attack until I found out they kept it at the airline's baggage office for pickup. Definitely an experience that makes you double-check every rule before flying.

Ok, so this article now says the day of the alleged offence the boy allegedly stole 2 12 gauge shotguns from a property in Western Victoria.

Lets hope some poor farmer does not get charged for some failure to secure firearms charge.

If a random 17 year old can breach a security fence at an airport and get onto a plane with a gun then it is not hard to imagine what could of happened with someone who had a bit more skill. They could of easily taken the plane. Massive failure for the AFP and the labor government.

Anyone ever worked in mining? How they talk about the holes of the swiss cheese lining up in regards to an incident occurring. This one here seems like that having multiple layers of failures.

The Swiss cheese model was always, to me, a way of explaining away the failures of people first, then procedure. But always people, because not only do people make procedure but they are supposed to oversee its implementation.
As usual, take what you hear with a grain of salt.

That model is an attempt to explain how accidents/incidents can happen.

To prevent a predicted incident usually several methods (layers) are put in place.
Example: a machine:
Procedure for operation
Guards
Safety switch
Supervision

Soo, the incident only happens if:
The procedure is not followed.
Guards are removed.
Safety switch fails
Supervisor does not supervise.

Therefore all 4 holes align in the Swiss cheese.

Copy, paste.

Therefore all 4 holes align in the Swiss blah blah

I bet in the real world, an incident could have a dozen steps to failure. How many slices then.
Yeah mate, I know all about it. I got a diploma in WPHS and lived and breathed all of it in fuel, mining and gas, writing WMS, JSA'S, chairing gazillions of safety meetings and prestarts, industrial accident investigations, sacked quite a few clowns who wouldn't listen and still, we hurt ourselves. Less, yes.
After all that, it's still what it is.

If the property owner actually failed to secure in accordance with the Act then I hope he does get charged, and made to pay for all the costs involved. As for security fence, what fence? An 8' chain mesh is all, and at 17 I reckon most of us could have been over it in seconds. Avalon only has decent security during the Airshows, they need to upgrade and maybe this incident will drive that.

Someone said there was a hole in the cyclones fence I think.

Sooo, who manages the property maintenance?

My bet it's the owner, Fox.

Pretty sure security at airports is regulated by federal government.??

Looking at the collection of tools on his tool belt (probably also stolen) It's quite possible he cut his way through the fence.

Anyhow, luckily it was a juvenile delinquent who's ambitions and abilities were worlds apart who's triggered reviews into regional airport security, it could've justvas easily been a trained middle eastern extremest.

Correct. AFP is in control of all airport security. So this is a federal and state incident.

But Fox owns the property.
Guess it depends if the dude cut the fence, or it was an old hole in fence I guess.

Still more info to come I guess.

your absolutely right . i would've thought security at airports a really high priority after 911 and other terrorist attacks. by the sounds of it a comic book bad guy in a black cape/ top hat/ black moustache , could sneak in and attach a ticking time bomb to the landing gear and nobody would notice ;)
