Had a couple of weeks off but didn't get a lot of hunting in between the good half being away for a week and both girls sick (at the same time

). Did manage to come across the first fallow I've seen in the flesh for a while, a little button buck but it was crossing from private to plantation on the road, but confirmed that there were fallow where I thought there were (and only 200m from public huntable land). A bit of a walk showed up some promise, some very fresh sign and possibly busted 2 deer in different places that I didn't get to see. This area was burnt maybe 18 months ago, so the bracken is THICK and noisy, but there's nothing much else except in the gully bottoms in the way of brush.
I'd decided I wanted to get a small tarp for emergency rain showers, so I bought a few m2 of some UL fabric and started on a waterproof(ish) gun sock that I can keep in the back for downpours. Good thing I did as I had a heap of trouble getting the sewing machine working properly before I worked out that the thread type was the wrong one. Then this morning I knocked up a 1.5x2m tarp with trekking pole/stick holders and tie-outs in a bit over an hour. The 'assistant' then asked if we could put it up, so we did that and I had a bit of a play with various other setups. Just have to get hold of a few ultra light tent pegs and some light reflective tie out cord (using thick para cord for trialing).
