Wedgetail Mini vs Taipan

I’ve handled the Taipan, but not the Mini.
Any first hand experience on either?
Is there someone who has used both?
Is the Wedgetail worth the extra 1100 odd bucks?

Short answer is definitely yes.
Another short answer, you get what you pay for. And that depends on your budget.

I checked out the Wedgetail Mini today, and I’m pretty impressed, very nice.
At 3k though……I’ve got a couple of rifles advertised at the moment, so as soon as I can sell one of them I think I’ll grab the Wedgetail.

If my wife didn't have a 7615 .223 and it didn't shoot like a varmint gun... she'd have the Wedgetail Mini as she really likes where the controls/ergonomics are and has used our MK216 a fair bit.
Nothing like the awkward Frankenstein feel of chassis stocks on bolt actions.

A mate came out with the 308 version, because he hunts pigs and for the 308's all-rounder capability, and man, it shoots.

His groups with 2206H and the Sierra 150gn hollow-point Gamekings are unbelievable. As good as, or better than, many commercial bolt action varmint rifles of the popular brands. 135 Sierra HP's are as good, for head shooting everything.
He has a 1-8x scope for all-rounder field use and a 3-15x VX5 for playing with loads, on Leupold one-piece mounts and they actually return to zero within 1/2 MOA.
Believe it or not, or maybe he has a freak, or is a great shooter.

You will not regret your purchase, I reckon personally.

No experience with either but I’m impressed by the price on the wedgtail for what you get.
To get that on the market here for 3k they’ve done very well.
Fair honest price and value for it.

Honestly nowadays 3k on any new rifle will be your budgeting if you want something high quality and built to last.

And then, those rifles aren’t for everyone either. Some people are pretty rough with their tools. Some people are going to work them hard. And we’re lucky we can buy something that can shoot well for half the price.

The mini. There’s some nice touches in the design that pay homage to what inspired it. Yet it’s still clearly a sporting rifle for Australian conditions and meets regulations.

It’s not something that really appeals to me personally. But it will be the right fit for a lot of shooters controlling pests.

It’s a pretty tidy unit must admit. Impressive.

Nothing against the taipan either. That things true blue also. And theres a new lineup now. Keeps getting better.
And they listen to their customers and aim to please, pun intended.
I kinda like their uniqueness too. Easily recognisable. That’s a taipan.

I think ultimately. The mini for that price. Hard to pass up.
I dream of a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned

The 223 has really benefited enormously from the long development time of the 308, which seems to have any bugs ironed out.
Hopefully an Aussie company making such a quality bit of kit can benefit from their work and do well. Because the user gets huge benefit also.

It looks like one of my mates is buying a rifle off me, so hopefully I might be able to pick myself up a Wedgetail this week.
I’ll report back with some first impressions when I get it.
