The voting breakdown by party was as follows:

Labor Party: Voted in favor of the bill. While the government officially supported the legislation, some internal dissent was noted from backbenchers who voiced concerns over the impact on protest rights.

Liberal Party: Voted in favor alongside the government. The party supported the bill on community safety grounds but criticized the lack of consultation and "rushed" lawmaking process.

The Nationals: Voted against the bill. The party strongly opposed the new firearm restrictions, arguing they imposed "arbitrary limits" on farmers and primary producers.

The Greens: Abstained from the final vote. While they successfully passed a "unanimous" amendment to tighten gun laws for individuals with suspected terrorist links, they refused to support the final bill due to its "draconian" anti-protest provisions.

Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party: Voted against the bill, largely in opposition to the tightened gun control measures.

Key Outcomes
Passage: The bill was formally adopted and received Royal Assent on December 24, 2025.
Amendments: A single amendment from Greens MP Sue Higginson was accepted, which prevents the Police Commissioner from granting gun permits to anyone who has been investigated for terrorism-related offenses or who resides with someone under such investigation.
Legislation Scope: The omnibus bill includes Australia's "toughest" firearms regime (capping ownership at 4 guns for most residents), new powers for police to ban public protests for up to three months after a declared terror incident, and bans on the public display of terrorist symbols.

It’s nuts. Voting greens would have been a better option than libs or labor.

It's not rocket science.
Hopefully One Nation, the only political party supporting shooters and farmers, get your votes from now on.
We just might keep what is left.

It's now pointless lobbying the Libs or Labor, because they are desperate for the city slime vote, and proved they'll sell you out. And just did.
The SFP has backstabbed farmers over and over, siding with the farmers' arch enemy, Labor, too many times.
Probably worthwhile to message the Nats, because the Nats opposed the laws, to egg them on to join One Nation because you'll give them the flick too if they stay with the Libs.

To me, it's pretty f**ken simple.
All One Nations other policies regarding immigration, the economy, housing and manufacturing (take the time to look at them) are pro Australia too. Not just sucking off a globalisation agenda like the Duopoly.

“ The party supported the bill on community safety grounds but criticized the lack of consultation and "rushed" lawmaking process.”

So they objected but still caved in.

Vote them out forever

I was watching the progress through the upper house.
Those who opposed it were;
SFP
One Nation,
National Party
Libertarian party.

Basically 7 people. At times 10 were required for a majority.

Various parties opposed various parts of it and complained that if the bill had separated out the firearms changes, the crimes act changes, and the public assembly’s changes then things might have been different.

One Nation are not in the legislative assembly or council in NSW
Difficult to say who they would have aligned with in this matter. All things considered.
The majority of their voters support tougher gun laws. But they also still have a lot of pro gun voters.
Current rhetoric would suggest they’d oppose, but risky for their growth spurt.
Most probably oppose, possibly abstain.

Sffp all of their voters are pro gun.
Libertarian all of their voters are pro gun.
Nationals it was good to see them oppose this. Actually doing their job for the farmers instead of their donors. Despite their national leadership, they have very good representatives in regional areas.
I cannot overstate how good this was to see in NSW.

It was particularly disappointing to see liberals in regional seats vote against what their electorates wanted.

All registered parties NSW https://registers.elections.nsw.gov.au/s/registers-of-parties
Of those above there are two other pro gun parties.
Family first, Christian Conservative.
HEART, libertarian

Legalise Cannabis are an ally, but who even cares. They don’t. They only care about Cannabis.

Overall the majority of Australians support tougher gun laws. Simple as that.

yeah bottom line IS the majority of the general population , who know nothing of firearms and hunting, want tougher gun laws . our elected representatives , instead of taking their time to draft laws that are fair to all , rushed through new gun policy to cover up their failings on dealing with radicals in our society . the system, and those who administer it , failed . not the existing laws . it's all past now and we've got to deal with the new situation, and what's coming . i don't think labour in NSW is done yet .

"some very cooked units on this forum" ? not helpful womble . i tell you what , suggesting voting for the greens with their policies is cooked :P

merry christmas to you anyway :D

Same old stuff.

Perhaps the survey could have asked do you know what the gun laws are now? If not your answer goes in the bin.

I am a big proponent that voting should only be for land holders, business owners, people who are self sufficient etc like it was in the old days.

The masses are to stupid to even know the current laws even are.

Democracy is only as good as the education that surrounds it” Rules require wisdom, not just popularity.

Well why not spellcheck when you edit.

There are many countries that still retain a caste system. Where your birth determines your status in society.
I think I prefer an equal playing ground myself.
I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth.
Without socialism I would never had acquired an education or a trade.
