Supposed voter support for Minns over gun laws

Post by rossfrb » 22 Jan 2026, 8:33 am

The Sydney Morning Herald ran an article titled "Voters back Minns over gun laws and temporary protest ban"

Within the article was revealed the poll details from which the conclusion that NSW voters back Minns proposed new gun laws.
There were 572 respondents from a Resolve poll.
No detail how these respondents were picked, who commissioned the poll or who wrote the questions.
I am no survey questionnaire expert, but this poll appears to be intended to arrive at one outcome only.

This information to allow you to respond to any of your non shooting friends and relatives who try and tell you that the majority of NSW voters support Minns gun reforms because a poll said so.

The question about gun laws were listed as follows
"The NSW government is also implementing a number of reforms to gun laws following the Bondi attack. These include further restricting the type and number of guns that can be owned.......
Do you support or oppose these NSW gun reforms?"

While the above are true, the question IMHO lacks significant detail and nuance for anyone to make an educated response, especially given the complete ignorance most NSW people have regarding recreational firearm use in NSW (from my experience most people would fail "gun kindergarten").

Imagine if the the questions had been something like
"The NSW government, is also implementing a number of reforms to gun laws following the Bondi attack. These proposed reforms have not been backed by any scientific or evidential research. These include further restricting the type and number of guns that can be owned.......
and both federal and NSW state taxpayers will bear the significant cost.
Do you support or oppose these NSW gun reforms?"

Again a truthful question

Yes it’s all in the wording of the question and who you ask.
Ask any questions in the Sydney cbd and the answers will be completely different to the answers taken from people in Tamworth, Toowoomba etc…

Mate you are quoting the Sydney Morning Herald...
From what I know from the company directors I've worked with in some very large construction companies, they won't ever consider the SMH as anything other than leftist agenda rubbish which jumps at the chance to back the socialist agenda.
Owned by Nine Entertainment.

Yeah, I know some bag out the Murdoch press, everyone has their own perversions but mine is, If you f*cken work hard, respect those like you and respect the notion that if you try better than the largesse trash draining your blood you should be allowed to prosper.
F**k the SMH and it's socialist agenda.

I cannot believe anything I hear about Minns other than he is a cowardly example of a politician and a failure to the people of NSW that struggle to be a part in a respectable society.

So.... I understand in NSW, ALL political stunts and marches are banned.... if they are in any way protesting Minn's failure to keep people safe and blaming you guys for his failure...
But Anti-Australia day marches and Pro-Palestine marches (that are directly related to the hatred of Jews) continues to go ahead?
There's your leader.

Every Facebook post or poll I've seen recently is heavily skewed to pro gun views with all the comments paying out on anyone voting for gun control usually at a 10 to one ratio

Now, the algorythm is showing me content that it thinks I'll like, so it is somewhat biased and will recommend me pages that other people with similar view already like- but just look at anything posted by MSM news outlets, labor politicians, and anti-gun lobbies - everyone is paying out and they have to keep turning comments off

(same goes for pro Australia day, shutting down mass immigration, support One Nation)

I get it, but this appears to be the poll that news sources in general are subsequently referring to, trying to promote the idea that there is wide voter support in NSW for Minns proposed new laws.
Interesting choice of words in referring to the poll participants as voters.

That is really kind of weird...
Because when I bring up Farcebook it's 100% pro-gun posts, memes belittling Albanese and Minns in bikinis and what losers they are.
My wife, it's all medical stuff 50%, with the other 50 anti-Albanese gun and hate speechdribble....
Absolutely no anti-gun rhetoric.

So with that in mind, the algorithm is either sizing up your hairstyle using the camera on your device, or the other things you follow. No offence, but that's what the algorithm does...
