The Sydney Morning Herald ran an article titled "Voters back Minns over gun laws and temporary protest ban"
Within the article was revealed the poll details from which the conclusion that NSW voters back Minns proposed new gun laws.
There were 572 respondents from a Resolve poll.
No detail how these respondents were picked, who commissioned the poll or who wrote the questions.
I am no survey questionnaire expert, but this poll appears to be intended to arrive at one outcome only.
This information to allow you to respond to any of your non shooting friends and relatives who try and tell you that the majority of NSW voters support Minns gun reforms because a poll said so.
The question about gun laws were listed as follows
"The NSW government is also implementing a number of reforms to gun laws following the Bondi attack. These include further restricting the type and number of guns that can be owned.......
Do you support or oppose these NSW gun reforms?"
While the above are true, the question IMHO lacks significant detail and nuance for anyone to make an educated response, especially given the complete ignorance most NSW people have regarding recreational firearm use in NSW (from my experience most people would fail "gun kindergarten").
Imagine if the the questions had been something like
"The NSW government, is also implementing a number of reforms to gun laws following the Bondi attack. These proposed reforms have not been backed by any scientific or evidential research. These include further restricting the type and number of guns that can be owned.......
and both federal and NSW state taxpayers will bear the significant cost.
Do you support or oppose these NSW gun reforms?"
Again a truthful question
