Dodgey Glocks and Qld Police..

Post by Jorlcrin » 24 Apr 2026, 7:06 am

Saw the ABC news article yesterday; QLD Police urgently assessing all their Glocks for potential fault:-
===
"The Queensland Police Service will test every Glock handgun issued to officers, over fears they could inadvertently fire multiple shots.
The service says "further testing is being progressed to provide additional confidence".
"Testing is being conducted across all regions, commands and divisions in the interests of officer and community safety," it said in a statement.
Police said there have been no operational issues with the service-issued weapons.
===

Would it be too snarky to ask if they are licensed to operate Cat R firearms??
Heh.

They're exempt from all our rules and regs.
They don't even need a gun licence at all. They can even take their service issue home. That's how that cop shot his boyfriend in that lovers tiff not long ago.

Wasn't that NSW?

The fellow in question apparently checked out his Glock under false pretences. That person is awaiting trial.

It would be interesting to do the numbers:
The chances of being murdered/shot by a licenced person in NSW
vs
The chances of being shot by a cop in NSW (gay or not).

Qld cops aren't EVER allowed to take their POS plastic junk home.
Not according to my mates unfortunate enough to have picked that job.

fussy here in the states the legal guns don't tend to be a problem it tends to be drug dealers and gangs and most are stolen or made a guy that has a drill press and a little know how can make one.

Yes Wapiti, true except for exceptional circumstances.
Yes Damo300, that was NSW, but also true in Queensland, no weapons licence required for police firearms. Private firearms require licence same as all.

It's a funny thing that's on the media, this supposed wild auto fire or doubling from either "wear or defect".
Never ever heard of it before, even with blokes who like those things, and shoot 1000's of rounds at the range. You'd think you'd have heard about it from the 'States from the amount of private shooting and open ownership of handguns in that free country. (free compared to this freedom denying country)

Especially to handguns hardly ever used. You can't wear something out if the only few shots from the gun is at members of the public not complying with whatever they've decided you must that day.

Sounds like some BS to me.

I'm no armourer, so take this as you will.
The glocks are personal issue and for the first 10yrs or so qualification was twice yearly, after that it was once a year.

Maybe 100/200 rds per qualification. So agreed even over 20 yrs bugger all rounds fired.

Probably bigger issue is that they are stripped and supposedly cleaned after each qualification by the issued to copper. 95% of such who have no idea about firearms or even mechanical principles in general, so what force is used attempting to dismantle and reassemble the each time is the issue. They are instructed, but usually 1 to 5 or so and care factor has to be considered.

The other issue i see is even though they fire bugger all rounds, they are carried 40 hrs a week with associated vibrations/dust/dirt/drops/who gives a s**t attitude. So I reckon general wear and tear to be considerable.

One slightly undersized part from factory, along with 20 yrs of abuse could lead to an issue i reckon.

I think this story is BS! A glock has been standard issue for police departments all around the world for decades now and this has never been an issue. Maybe one of the glocks is an automatic version or has been modified as such.

I doubt the average street cop strip their guns. They have an armourer who does it.

I was a QLD detective for 20yrs, you strip and clean your own pistol after qualifying as i stated.

Choose to believe what you want.

After qualifying? So once a year? Anyone who knows glocks knows you can’t magically make a semi auto glock into an auto by simply reassembling it. It must be modified in someway.

That was my point, possibly some slightly undersized or whatever part after being further bent or whatever from improper dismantling/reassembly and 20yrs of being carted around day after day.
As stated I'm not an armourer, but my understanding is its not that hard to make them full auto (need to change parts), so can imagine that a worn/damaged part could possibly make it happen with 2 shots/ 1 trigger pull, as i understand thsi is.

I just feel like if it was due to a faulty part would we not of heard about from another police or military force? Police and militaries all over the world have used glocks for decades and nothing. In and out of holsters all day every day.

Maybe it was modified on purpose? That would be my guess.

Again, wear then, is not an issue.
Particularly when the weapons are hardly ever fired.
Friends of mine reckon qualifying nowadays, over the last few years, isn't even a box of ammo. I think a girlfriend of mine said their last quals of her group were 3 magazines.
What a joke.

Problems can arise in a single firearm, of any type, for any reason, without any others ever showing similar.
Just like any other mass produced mechanical device.
It must've been a slow news day, or a desperate attempt at getting some relevance.
