Agreed, and it wouldn't involve a vehicle or anything electronic. If I can't carry it on my back it's a hindrance not an asset.

I'm not asking people divulge their favourite hidey hole, c'mon!
Just wondering if this huge change of sentiment is here also and people see any substance in it or noticed it. Seems ridiculous to me.
Is it really a thing people think about, or is it just crap? Conversely, are there people out there just do not think about where the future is headed? There seems to be a massive industry running along underneath the surface. Seems to be big money driving it, and a big lack of faith in the future.
There also seems to be this real thing about "bugging out to the bush". tell you what, we've seen this too and do not want the any of the clowns that drove society over the cliff to come out here and put the pressure on us and expect to be welcomed.

Not as in, IF it may come to pass,, but when.
Why on earth presume that the cities will cop a flogging. The kind of stuff that will get lobbed when the time comes won't only affect cities.
And don't forget, you are talking about HUMANS,,,,,,, The most evil and vicious animals on the face of the planet.
City people will (if they can) try to run to the country. Why ?
They won't be any safer there, and the people that are already there won't appreciate a horde of invaders from the city.![]()
It will be mostly a case of mass confusion and I'd liken it to a huge mob of sheep that have a pack of feral dogs attack them in the dark.
They all run like crazy, (stampede) have no idea of where they are going or why,,,,,,,, and will flatten fences in their blind rush.
Come daylight, those that are lucky enough to have survived the first onslaught will stand or mill about in a daze.
In the long run, ordinary people will be no match for, and will stand little chance against the likes of the weapons used when that time comes.
Me,,,,,, I will stay put, and take my chances,, with what little I've got.

We live like preppers anyway I suppose, we need to be able to keep moving forward without needing society around us. Not just this rubbish about shelves full of canned baked beans, how silly, but all tools, parts for everything you use, all the gear to fix or make stuff, the ability to do all that, to make energy, comms fuel and food. That's just normal to us. No 15 minute corner shop trips to get everything here. It's normal.
But people showed me online how there's even survival shops and online youtube dudes selling already-packed "go bags" full of stuff you can grab and go, here in Australia! I am not surprised the yanks are into this craze, but Aussies?
Visitors we had that I though would know better, or think differently, have this as a real scenario!
What kinda p*sses me off is people we had here as visitors all say "Oh we'll just come out here with you guys"
"you got fuel and unlimited food" "you can teach us all this stuff and we can build a new community"
All I can think of is just, well I hope that never happens and probably never will, because most people would be like putting an anchor chain around our legs.
I can just imagine, people just showing up and being a drain on us, bringing their politics and baggage with them, and their victimhood as well.
Not to mention when they run out of their other needs, like drugs for their medical afflictions both physical and mental, tobacco and alcohol addictions and the whining that would bring, and "someone else will save us" attitudes.
Seeing as that subject came up and we were in a position to think about it and see how there's a huge industry bubbling along about it. It is interesting to hear other people's opinions, or if people are even aware of this big industry selling stuff and frightening people to keep them buying.

Why are we talking about running ???????
Do you really think that if our borders were penetrated, you could hide from 1.4 billion Chinese…
That’s the problem with this world, everyone is to woke, their first instinct is to run.

defending your food and supplies during times of chaos is why AR's are popular with preppers i thinki'd say more on this subject , but posting the reality of how to deal with marauders on the net isn't a good idea with the laws and monitoring we have these days . i've been saying to people for years this modern internet world is a house of cards . if the net crashed tomorrow , social breakdown would happen fast . there's a good movie on this "leave the world behind" , made 2023 . cheers

Yeah mate, tradie life.
Mobile cranes actually.
230am every day, even Sunday.
8pm, lights out.
Then throw random night shifts filled with strong lattes to keep the blood pumping, and the last 30yrs has become a constant blur.
Hopefully winding right back after Olympics, so long as the billionaires don't create another "scenario" to send the silly sheep bat s**t crazy again. My spidey sensors are tingling though. Something's not right and we all know it. Suspenseful sort of.
I have the attention span of a gold fish when it comes to movies. Love books though.

If you are going to stockpile anything start with basic medicines, like antibiotics. Even for minor infections that won't go away you still need lots of antibiotics to kill it off.
I doubt I would have any interest in trying to combat an occupying military, I'd just be looking to get as remote as possible and hunker down for however many years I need to.Wapiti wrote:It was just something that others brought up here, certainly not what I think or put much thought into.

You nailed it there I reckon BR.
I mean, each to his own and knock yourself out, but baked beans cans in the suburbs is just fantasy. It's not where I wanna be, where all the deadsh*ts that have been bred for the last however long will be on the roam. And thinking you can protect it with a firearm in an urban environment is just one petrol bomb away from toast.
Just going on the opinions of people visiting us from the cities, and their behaviour and habits, scares me. Maybe nt scares but informs as to the crazy stuff they think are options or plans.
They can't spend a weekend without 2 cartons of beer each, chop-chop poisoning their hosts lungs every 15 minutes and an empty can for an ash-tray, a bag of medications to counter their health choices and habits.
Even the poor buggers who've never spent their lives poisoning themselves would not have enough medications for a month, and drag everyone else down by being an unfortunate burden.
Someone amongst our visitors said, first thing we'd need to do is start growing tobacco, or we'll go mad. And, "I'm stocking up on home-brewing supplies".
I can see some yabby bait never being scarce.
I said, how'd you buggers ever get outa the city anyway? From 2pm every day the roads are gridlocked with people going home from work, imagine the choked roads. Imagine after a mass system failure.
One of my friends friends has a kitted-out twin cab Landcruiser ute with $80,000 of all the gear bolted to it above and below - I said, how'd you get that out here in a 30km traffic jam of crazy upset people on a mass exodus, that thing won't help you. "Oh I'll just drive over all the Teslas"

bladeracer wrote:I see no value in diesel or a vehicle. There is unlikely to be a ready supply of replacement fuel for a vehicle, at least not after a few days. And where would you be wanting to go anyway? Replacement tyres - seems equally unlikely to me. And if you can get into your hiding place with a vehicle it's not remote enough. Canned food could be a luxury for the first few days while you're setting up your first hideout. But carrying cans when food is all around you for the taking seems a wasted effort to me, I'd rather use that space for a spare pair of boots. Likewise shotguns, shotgun ammo takes up huge amounts of space compared to .22LR ammo, not to mention the incredible weight of it. A brick of 500rds of .22LR is pretty small, under 2kg, and will kill anything you might need to. And if I had to defend my spot against armed attackers I would much rather have 500rds of .22LR than 80rds of .223, or 60rds of .308, or 25rds of 12 gauge for the same amount of room in a pouch. And .22LR is significantly quieter, so you could be hunting your food for a long time before anybody notices you're in the area.
I doubt I would want to get involved in a group effort, just go bush, find a quiet remote spot to hang out for a while, then move on as people start encroaching and find your next spot. Eventually the world will settle down and then I might venture out to see what's happening.
I've just loaded 40kg of ammo into two ammo crates for eight days of shooting in QLD. I'm taking a little more than I plan to use, just to be sure. The minimum I need is 100rds of .45ACP, 250rds of .44-40 pistol ammo, 300rds of .44-40 rifle ammo, 50rds of .30-30, 250rds of 12ga shells, and 50rds of .22LR. I'm not shooting the long-range matches or I would need .45-70 ammo as well. Some of the matches can be shot multiple times, and you might get some stage reshoots due to equipment failure, so you need plenty of extra ammo. 200gn and 230gn ammo adds up quickly, in weight and volume, but shotgun ammo is a big step above those.
I'm taking 30 litres of water again but last year I ran out and had to drive into town to buy more water. Last year we saw 44C I think, this year the forecast isn't looking at getting over 30C, with 9C being the coldest nights.
I'll probably be bringing two grandkids home in my little car, with all my gear, so I had to build a proper folding bed in there and make sure everything packs in tight to leave two extra seats free for them.
