Have you worked out how use them? There is a bit of a knack to get the right mouth position. Can be very frustrating when you first start using them.

I meant to say how's a "tenterfield whistle" different to a regular "fox whistle".

I see the different style now though.

Best I could get out of one when I tried was the sound of someone spluttering on a bend of metal

going to the farm this weekend, 1 to test the new rifle and 2 see how the whistles go.

apparently the whistles work best over Easter, the foxs are breading and the bunnies have had new borns. the whistle is ment to be a distressed bunny. it will still work all year round but the older foxes keep their distance but will still come within 100 metres. see how I go this weekend.

sorry about the late reply, was just scouting around and noticed this had replies

The whistles work any time of year, sometimes they will come screaming in other times they pay very little attention too it, I also use scotch predator callers, fox pros, penny whistles, styrofoam and the hand (kissing sound) they all work, just depends on the foxes and how they respond.

Keep the wind in your face as best as you can or a cross wind (left to right of your position) look for gullies and creek lines as they love those, blackberry bushes and any tussock grass patches (they love sleeping in those) rocky outcrops are popular for them also as is bracken ferns etc.

And don't be surprised if a fox breaks all the rules and comes from the same direction the wind is blowing from (had em come and stand right next to me a times)

Good luck and hopefully you'll get a few come in - Oh yeah keep the noise and talking/movement down to nothing if you can, they've got good hearing and will spot any movement - nows a good time to get them as they are young and dumb, when mating season is on they are very cagy and won't sit still for a shot so get into em now if you want a few (skins are s**t of course now).

Also listen for the birds, they will often start sounding off when a fox is on the way in.
