Fallow 'Swiss Cheese' like illness

Two Fallow Does caught a mysterious Swiss Cheese style illness recently on my property. Found them both with odd neat holes in their shoulder/rib area and heavy bleeding with a crunchy sound from inside the shoulder area.

Still looking for my main breeding Buck who has vanished, or possibly come down with the same 'illness'. He may have just got too tired carrying his 36+ point on his very white large palms and hid in a wombat hole.

The missing boy coincidently looks allot like this one. Might just be his long lost brother

Might be time to give up the idea of farming them and cull the lot. Not worth the stress and unwanted attention they bring anyway.

looks serious, maybe parasite / infection or something causing the upper layer of the skin to separate .... I would contact the DSLEIPxyz... sorry, dont know what their current name is.. State Gov, could be quarantine worthy??

The hole through one side and out the other was my concern with a pool of blood underneath, also the crunchy feeling/sound when I lifted a leg to role her over.

My missing buck looked just like that photo. Someone pretty randomly posted the pics on another forum (source and location unknown apparently).

Yeah I think that one was posted on FaceAche from memory but has been removed apparently - there was a lot of conjecture as to whether it was shot in the wild or farmed, I wonder if it was your's mate, any pics of your's?

I too was wondering if it was a tongue in cheek account of hunting you'd done, or victim of poaching. So waited till the thread filled out a little.

How about game camera's, you could use them elsewhere out of season, handy to put near a toolshed too, as well as where they'd catch the poachers vehicle info.

My does don't fight and generally don't suffer domestic violence during mating. The ground is flat grassy paddocks so no reason for two does to fall and die with holes in them either.

Just spent a night out due to spot lighters too close for comfort, likely after Hog and Fallow again, like most nights out here. Non private property deer habitat bordering my place. Recipe for a s**t fight.

How long is the section bordering on crown land?

The cost is probably prohibitive but any possibility of putting a 'human' fence along the length of it?

Some will skirt it of course but at least you can know the bastards from the potentially innocent mistakes if someone wanders across during stalking hours.

2km. The entire property is 190cm deer wire fenced. They pull the staples out of the posts to loosen it and slide under or climb over at the side gates or shoot and leave from the road. No mistakes ever.

Got some good intel last night. Will have a wall covered with photos, notes, maps and drawing pins soon

Any way of creating a climber friendly spot on the fence? The side gates sound good, for the aforementioned game camera's. I doubt they walk home either, so if it's possible to position a cam for both the climbing and the car, could get them locked up right away.
Alternatively they could explain their presence to the police while complaining about their vandalised car. Some people have no respect for the property of others...
I might face something similar in future, albeit with orchard thieves, but at least I live on the property. I sometimes wonder what the best course of action would be, and the disabled car with incriminating evidence scenario sounds good.

Wading through photos at present for the buck in late March. I know others have taken photos too, so tracking some down.

Fairly unique odd rack so should be a bit like a finger print.

As far as taking it calmly I've done the 'lose my s**t' thing. In the past I've given chase all prepped to 'maim and shame'.

I removed 6 yesterday. Approx 70 more to go. Strangely I get the cold shoulder now when they see me. No more pears and apples ?
Neighbours cool room and bandsaw will get a workout over the coming weeks but most will be pushed up in a burn pile.

Back to buying batches of week old solid coloured calves to sell at around 6-7 months.

try and sell them? farmers market? canned hunt type of thing, shoot your own meat? might as well make some money of them and if not how about "give away to a good home" it will be upsetting to you to have to just shoot and burn,

While at the vet today had a chance meeting with a local GMA/DEPI officer who works the local Hog Deer check in station. Needless to say we had a lengthy chat and exchanged some notes. I'm almost inspired enough to look into a career change even as a volunteer to begin with.

The spotlighting of Hog Deer around here is wide spread as soon as they're in hard antler. Some lazy pricks are trying to pass off deer shot out of season and from unauthorised areas

All I can pass on is from what I learnt today there will be interesting times ahead for those who claim a false time and location of their kill. GMA are getting very serious

As far as my own issues are concerned the deer are going and I'm getting over it. Moving into either beef cattle and or angora goats since I have the fencing and infrastructure already.

I will continue to quietly pursue a couple of pricks of interest with the help of a couple of forthright reliable witnesses I would never have expected to come forward I wont lose sleep over it but I just may get the last laugh yet...
