"legislation" course

The course is more about laws than handling in QLD is it?

I did it through my local SSAA and they defiantly covered everything from handling and aspects of the weapon, storage, safety, carriage of a weapon to reloading ammunition, but it just seems like there is so much paper work. And on top of that it is just to APPLY to get your licence with no real answer if your going to get it. Now I have a clean record and only some speeding fines so I shouldn't have any trouble but it's just the fact that you have to do the safety course to apply and leave it up to someone that has never met or even seen you.
Seems like they know something we don't :sarcasm:

Qld WLB have been great in the past few months. LOTS of people applying they are getting through it... my H class should be here tomorrow, as it was email approved on the 9th of this month and PTA approved for Beretta 92A1 7 May - A and B took 7 weeks and the Pta 3 weeks for normal waiting time.. the LGS Halls firearms txt me yesterday saying the PTA was there - just have to pay the rest of the balance on my 308 T3 CTR

I'm not a QLD resident but it would be interesting to know why the sudden turn around there.

From all reports it seems like it went from 2 months to 2 weeks almost over night.

It does seem like they were being deliberately slow previously and the decision was made to stop that policy.

You hit the nail on the head. They are Government employees making decisions and slowing the process up based on moral standings rather than legislation  Some of them are OK on the phone, others are down right rude and ignorant.

Sorry, but not technically correct.

The Authorizing Officer - Section15 Queensland Weapons Act-

"(3) In deciding the application, the authorised officer may
consider anything at the officer’s disposal."

There is also another part that states that the applicant must not be considered a danger to the public.

Now, I'm not suggesting that the odd fine would disqualify you from holding a licence but should you have been hooning around, driving recklessly, speeding etc it maybe considered that you have no respect for the law, be a danger to the public and be deemed to be not a fit & proper person. etc.

Hey folks, new here.

Applied online for cat a/b on January 16 2015. Currently on my 17th week and still waiting. I've phoned twice with the utmost politeness just to be fobbed off. Anyone else been waiting as long as me?

So far I've found the QLD cat A/B license process to be pretty painless, even with my "troubles" back in '77 that I informed them of (that probably got a good laugh around the WLB office).

With my first PTA I got an email after 4-5 days saying that it is approved, I just have to wait the 28 days and they will issue it.

My cat H is 2 months in progress, also (so far) painless but admittedly it doesn't involve the WL people yet, we'll see how it goes in 4 months :)

So guess I have a black mark against my name that i dont know about. What else would explain this? And if there is something wrong with my application, wheres my phone call/email notification? Ive heard of people cc'ing their local member into a complaint email to the qps. Anyone else heard anything like that or would condone it?

I'd love to see a QLD application from start to finish and see what's happening for these 2 months.

How long does it take to check if someone has a conviction or something that would prohibit them from obtaining a license? 5 minutes? Maybe 20 minutes if they have a common name that could match problem people or some information is missing and needs followup, something like that.

At 10 minutes average a pop there can't be that many application that it legitimately takes 2 months to rubber stamp a license.

Seems to be a bit drawn out, even taking into account the 28 days waiting period.
I know that I had a long wait but new computer etc has since been installed, extra staff trained & employed. I was under the impression that paperwork caught up a bit.

I've called WLB on a few occasions and have had no fobbing off etc, must be just who you get. :D

Anyway, I'd suggest give WLB a ring and have a polite chat, explain situation and if no joy have a chat with your local member and further explain the matter. 8-)

Good luck. :)

OK so since completing my gun safety course on the 19th of April, I finally got my ssaa membership details Friday the 15th of May and done my online application on monday. Had an error occour while payment was being made so i called up weapons licensing on tuesday and they said they'd send off an email and I would get a call within 24hrs. Didn't here anything on Wednesday so I called back today and 5 mins later had my reference number and they said that I'll get my notice to appear in the mail. To top it off just got off the phone and the missus came in with the mail with my notice to show 100 points of ID to the local police station. Needless to say I'm pretty stoked so far.

just thought of something that happened to me, On your drivers licence, if you have a condition i.e like mine is "M" as I have a pacemaker, WLB wanted to know what the M was for. I told them pacemaker and that its NOT on the list of conditions that req a Doc Cert.. I also mentioned it when I was going for my H licence too to avoid delays. they were happy with that ...
