Scored a little gem! Also ideal 1st car or cheap capable 4WD

Post by KWhorenet » 16 Jun 2015, 7:28 am

Well after my recent form of buying based on a fuzzy photo and false advertising by a dirty con man, I was prepared to hoist this 1994 model and test it till I was asked to leave...

Not so, the Used Car Sales family were happy for me to spend 2 hours sussing out every nook and cranky piece of it till I was the one who gave up looking.

I think I found Miss Daisy's own SUV

As for X's vs Ticks, I found 1 stone crack (in tact + sealed# in a driving light, 1 stone chip #in tact + sealed# in a head light, 1 minor stone chip down low right side of windscreen #in tact + sealed#, erosion to paint on the grill around headlights pfft, 1 scuff to the paint #it'll buff out or get covered by mud), missing the tow tongue + ball, ummmm yeah that is it ! Nothing I haven't got mint spares to replace already or I give two shytes about.

It is a beauty. I do hope the engine doesn't last too long...I have a design/mods already drafted and most major components packed in grease waiting fitment.

Lovely looking little car mate, plenty of k's on it but that doesn't sound like she will worry you too much with the spares waiting to be fitted when needed, hows the gearbox and transfer, diffs etc, all still working fine I take it?

Re: Found Miss Daisy's SUV

Post by KWhorenet » 17 Jun 2015, 1:19 am

Drove it home today. I have missed buzzing one of these around. More fun than a Rodeo uterus. Although driving this makes me miss my first car, a baby s**t brown sleeper uber high HP/revving 1975 MKII Ford Escort 2lt 2 door even more. Once when young, dumb and on a promise at 3am, Newcastle to Sydney in under an hour. Damn fresh Crispy Creams a good !!! ;)

If you haven't noticed, I have a soft spot for these little Hairdresser 4WD's (4cyl's in general). Got used to the seating position again and the long action clutch work. Been a while out of a Feroza Saddle. Compared to sitting low in the Rodeo one tonner it is like climbing aboard a Fergie 28 tractor again.
(Picked up the Rodeo from the train station tonight. Bloody clutch...stalled it twice and kangaroo hopped it like mad with witnesses. Looked like I stole it)

Red Roza; Very nimble and remembering to use the gears and keep the revs in the power band is a must, but as I've proven before with these little 1.6lt 16valve buzz boxes, fuel economy is only to be had if driven like a go kart. Labour it and lose. Lacking torque...mmmmayyyybe need a roots SC14... :silent:

Not sure what 'granny' is collecting her shopping in now but looks like she drove alone as there is no usage wear to the rear seats or passenger door hinges even.

I should have bought a shooter/beater as it is too nice for mowing down trees and jumping off of sand dunes as the blue one endured.

If anyone's son or daughter wants a cheap 4WD wagon, quoted excerpt;
"petrol with injection. The Feroza is a very nice ride, with almost luxury car qualities (for early to mid 90's) on the road. But due to its heavy chassis (which is almost the same as the Rocky's) works hard off-road. The Feroza has a 1600 engine and the ground clearance is quite high. It is a 5 speed manual, has power steering, power windows and mirrors and comes with air conditioning."

Also central locking.
My 1992 ELIII has Switch/electric controlled 3 stage dampening shocks but this 1994 SXII model doesn't  Used to enjoy this feature when towing or running hard through bends and not slowing down for Newcastle's huge fast roundabouts ;)

Today I filled up then again at the 200km mark after leaving Melbourne in hectic arvo traffic from Bayswater to Frankston and then to Traralgon. Used 17.95lt so not too shabby given the 'stop - start - floor it' nature of the trip...No driving Miss Daisy when leaving the big smoke. Cant wait to clear out

Will go for a hot lap or two of my sandy trail loops. I miss that allot . Benefit now is I have a nice sized and shaped 'Boong-Bar' in case of roos or emus so hopefully my windscreen wont take a hit 8-)

I hoisted it this morning and checked for lash. Nothing to worry about. Minor rear diff lash but I blame operator driving like a poooove. As long as drive is constant then lash doesn't happen. Back off then slap it on and I feel slight wear. No biggy. I never did my diff before and I never treated it softly.

The front drive train seems to be as new. Dropping all liquids through coffee percolator filters tomorrow... oh ok make that today.
Suspension seems a bit bouncy. Gets a nice rocking action when accelerating and changing gears. Tough Dog Suspension kit waiting to go will fix that.

I have more than one car worth of load bearing wearing parts. Cheap as these days. If you ever own one of these cars, buy every like new radiator you see. If not to use, to trade hint hint. Lucky for me this radiator has not one bent fin. Not too many sticks and dirt bike rooster trails going to Church
I laugh because all my others have had to be straightened weekly with flat blades or kebab sticks or Hornet 'Grey Fuel Goop' sealed on the go.

Ripping the back seats out tomorrow also. Next rego will be as a two seater only. *EDIT: No point updating rego and data plate... according to my local Vic Roads, rego wont be any cheaper, not like my single cab ute with less seats.

Seats still coming out though. My Rottie doesn't fit in the back otherwise

If this thing was an auto a GF of mine was claiming it apparently since my 'side-less' Rodeo beat her 'Opel Vectra' up in the drive way a while back

Wax washed the Red Roza today before it saw a big brother lonely in the Toyota dealership.

Parked next to the flat tray work ute...with ONLY $67,990.00 DRIVE AWAY (no more to pay as we don't accept sperm as payments).

Damn nice Landcruiser but fcuk me how can a ute be 68k

IMO the little 21 year old girl looked every bit the part & not out of place tarting it up next the Cruiser. The salesman was keen as I took photos of his gold plated Cruiser. He could here cash rustling in my '3 stripe' tracky dacks for sure.

I'd like one of those cruise tray backs but will have to wait till it is 20 years old.

The Feroza go some TLC today. The usual door auto on/off light switches corroded and full of mud. Cleaned and worked smooth for the spring to operate the contact cap n post. All 3 sorted.

The little piss weak cracked blown driving lights had to go...go to my tractor of course.
Have an LED work light to go on the rear corner for stuff n things.

Got a sweat deal as a Super Cheap Trader Acct holder

Building a custom 'V54 driver' LED Bar that should blow your mind when Vinh Nguyen (Wayne V54) my Lights modder and I are done with the design, these 20th Century Halogens will migrate to the Rodeo Ute.

For now, the pricks who high beam me with their bulls**t HID and blue high kelvin globes can cop an unexpected eyeful back :D

has anyone bought tyres and then taken them elsewhere to be fitted and balanced?

I'm expecting to pay double that of when the tyres are bought from the same business.

$18 to $25 each for 31" going onto unmarked BNIB mag wheels ?? Don't want some hack dinging them up and scoring the crap of the surface finish either.
Might check their tooling before I let them at it.

Wonder if a Suzuki Hayabusa engine with a heavier fly wheel added, could be bolted in.

seems so:

Suggest me a pattern

Post by KWhorenet » 20 Jun 2015, 8:19 am

Open to suggestions on pattern or design for a vinyl wrap

http://www.camoskinz.com/product-patterns.htm

- Been given a best price quote of USD$490 + post for the 'Jeep Sized vehicle kit',
- My counter offer/request will be to add a spare 5'x5' piece in case of fcuk up or damage for $520 + cheapest post.

Before I scratch up the paint, not that I should worry about such things (fence paint and a broom will fix it), I like idea of a vinyl wrap, non permanent but quite secure to not only give some scratch/scrape resistance but maybe to get a look that I wouldn't want to pay huge coin for to paint.

Personally I have always wanted to try the paint used by the likeable baddies in movies that washes off with a hose :)

Was going for a camo job like real tree or even old school 'green/brown/black' jungle camo.

Here is a couple I am considering:

Those little mini cars you see racing around tracks in Aus have the Hyabusa engines in them too, amazing performance from 1300cc engines.

That should kill the on road performance nicely. :D I did a similar thing to a Suzuki Sierra years ago, certainly took what little sting it had right out of it (not that it had much to start with) but certainly made it a better 4wd.

Yeah I don't expect any performance boost ha-ha although traction will be a bonus. May be fine in lower gears and using H4 more often.

On road will be a handful and not often.

Have my x4 wheel change times down to under 5mins with gear out n ready. Have to remember the spare on the rear door to change over also. May rig up a single large lock nut and plate

With the compressed air tank fitted I should be able to use a rattle gun to speed things up. Just use a breaker to loosen and old ratchet torque wrench to finish.

Should get a decent life out of them all if I don't waste them on bitumen.

Have a 3rd set of rims I could keep with these current road style AT's if doing Melb or Sydney runs.

Last set of BFG A/T I got 160000km out of. Beat that for value

I own a feroza two seat soft top. I have to take it in for a computer diagnostic as it suddenly loses all power an struggles. Limits itself to 2500rpm and slowly decreases.
Until the diagnostic has been run and ive fixed it, i just cant trust it, which is a real shame. Put it into 4L and you would never guess it was a little car

A new computer is probably $50 at the wreckers or $10 used on eBay.

Cars being scrapped are advertised everywhere.

I'm thinking of accumulating certain parts I'm likely to break hitting stumps and hidden holes. Steering and idler arms etc.

Cheap parts to be had.

The thing that isn't obvious is the heavy duty full chassis. Adds weight low which is good.

I'm adding extra 50+ lt of fuel tank but later this year also adding up to 10lbs of SC-14 roots boost.

$140 as I recall, 31x10.5, some years ago now though, the BFGs were quoted at something like $260 fitted.... maybe they're better quality tyres, I dont know, but I couldn't justify the extra expense.... My tyres have performed well, they eat through the slop, sail through the mud.... apart from the tree branch that went through the sidewall (tyre was replaced no charge)... no concerns, Mudstars

Image

I'll probably put another set on....
