New Lever Action Laws.

Hey guys. A lot of you people would know about the debate concerning Lever action Shotguns and this Adler gun.

And well, I've read a few articles on news websites and it seems like they are trying to ban ALL lever action guns. So i would like to see if you guys know anything more about this topic.

The main thing i'm wondering about is will this affect all Lever actions or just the shotguns.

The Australian Situation:

Anti-gun organisations, along with a number of Canberra and high-level state bureaucrats, have begun a quiet campaign for even more draconian firearms legislation across Australia over the past 12-18 months. This campaign includes:

• The Senate Inquiry, led by a Greens Party Senator, was a frontal attack on firearms ownership. Thankfully this turned into an “own” goal for the anti-gun lobby, when a majority of the committee issued a report favourable to firearms ownership

• Commonwealth Attorney General’s Office – the Firearms and Weapons Policy Working Group has made clear its desire to reclassify lever action firearms, both rifle and shotgun as category C.

• Media Releases suddenly over the past 3 weeks focusing on “reviewing” the National Firearms Agreement (NFA). These media releases are not random, but are in our belief part of a highly developed strategy to incite public concern and fear, opening the way for legislative changes. Australian gun control groups have a stream of media releases they are feeding the media at present.

Perhaps the most striking thing about this campaign is that it is not coming from politicians. Rather, this is a campaign devised by police and anti-gun lobbyists and directed at politicians in the hope of panicking them into a knee-jerk response.
Prevention better than cure:

Having seen the signs some months ago, SUQ began researching and contacting “experts” in firearms legislation in fellow commonwealth countries such as New Zealand and Canada to try and balance the misinformation being fed to politicians.

Canadian laws were a strong influence on the way Australia enacted laws after 1996 and so it made sense for us to find someone knowledgeable there.

Canada has actually been moving away from a number of the laws earlier put in place due to their findings of virtually ZERO effects on crime and public safety.

And one of the KEY politicians in Canada who spent over 15 years fighting to remove bad legislation in Canada is Garry Breitkreutz MP. He is one of the most knowledgeable people on firearms legislation internationally as well as a committed defender of traditional freedoms in Commonwealth nations.

Even though Garry is only in Australia for a few days due to his very busy schedule, we have arranged for him to have private meetings with key politicians (and hopefully police officials) in Canberra and also in Queensland. We hope that by hearing first hand of the lessons learned in Canada, and of the massive cost benefits as well as increased public safety from a more reasoned approach to firearms regulation, that we can inject some common sense into the debate and provide some balance in the information that is put before our politicians on the subject of firearms reforms.

We are hosting just one open meeting in Brisbane where ALL our members and supporters may attend and learn just HOW Canada has changed the direction of firearms legislation for the better. Garry will be joined in Brisbane by Samara McPhedran Phd, one of the leading researchers into causes of violence in Australia and an excellent speaker.

I think its obvious they want to take everything by this point though right? end game is everything but we will eventually command and conquer in my opinion

I heard from my LGS that NSW is making the new Adler a cat D. And the only thing decided in Vic, was it was going to be plugged to make it a 5 shot

All speculation at this point.

The only update i've heard from WA is that the police commissioner isnt interested in changing classifications.

But... This doesn't mean much AND this is WA

Yeah at the end of the day it was only a "Recommendation" which means there is a very real possibility it won't be taken seriously at all by some states or any of them(best case scenario). I have also heard that our enemy is really loosing momentum and we best not let our guard down not even for a little bit...keep the pressure on and we may eventually check mate them

Art of war my friends. it's essentially a information war...it would do us a incredible service to be out there not only educating people about our great sport but also showing people how unfairly treated we are and how much of a friendly positive and responsible bunch we all are.

Especially for political parties like shooters and fishers and or liberal democrats...maybe even shooters unions and SSAA ? If not game enough to stick it on your vehicle put pin ups on community boards or even slap a random somewhere. Post pamphlets? Back in the dark days of 96/97 I was a lot younger (obviously) and although I'd like to think well educated at the time, looking back I would more so describe it as well 'indoctrinated', pliable and naive to think that the government knew best....BULLSHIIT. The only thing the government knows is take more guns away. They sell that message easily, because the sheeple see the reports of drive-bys in west sydney (usually a 22 or a 12g blast to a garage door) followed by the ever present greens sound bite of 'ban the semi auto death pistol glove box automatic machine pistol gun"

Yeah I think I mentioned somewhere ( can't remember where) that this ain't even a political level attack it's basically at the media and police level trying to knee jerk pollies into action through a flood of public opinion. But that failed and even that mostly went in our favour. So it is a very real possibility that this is all one big psyop to fk with people's heads lol

Edit: like I keep saying though....don't back down and keep educating pollies the public and really apply that pressure good and solid. Did you see that move by John Howard btw? If he's making appearances and trying to get funds and support its a good sign that they are concerned. Got those hoplophobes worried good me thinks! We've just received breaking news this evening that the Federal Government, specifically Minister Keenan, has temporarily blocked the importation of the Adler pending the outcome of the review on the National Firearms Agreement (NFA).

I'm 70% sure Prime Minister Abbott has not much to do with the decision and it's more Minister Keenan, just happens that Abbott is a Liberal PM - like Howard.

yeah sorry. From my understanding, the pattern in Australia has been more and more regulation over the years so from this - in the future you guys are done. In the US, there is a good pro-firearm momentum in the south like in Texas, Georgia,etc as Texas has just legalized handgun OC and George has expanded carry laws. Even our maple syrup eating frost bitten northern neighbors Canada has recently abolished its registry except in liberal quebec , so Canada looks like it has the momentum.

Ok, so pretty much what you guys are saying is it is speculation at this point in time, And support parties like SFP and Liberal democrats.

No. Itwas speculation, but now appears a little more serious.

The single biggest thing that lafos lack right now is coordination. We need coordination and communication to make sure all lafos know whats happening and what can be done about it. We need the protest rallies on the 29th to be huge so the pollies see they've upset 800 000 voters and it puts the wind up them and these stupid kneejerk changes get stopped in their tracks.

May I suggest that we start by getting rid of that post regarding concealed carry. In the current climate where we are trying to hang on to what we still have, it's not helpful either our image or our cause to have people banging on about something that is never going to happen. We need to concentrate of keeping what we have, including a lever action shotgun.
