Precisely why I haven't and will not pay money for newspapers and main stream news anymore.

This is their logic in thinking - they can barely ever get facts right, and their stories are always designed to sway my opinions on matter instead of inform. Pay to get fed someone elses opinion to condition my way of thinking? There's plenty of free blogs for that if I want that sort of brainless entertainment.

I can't help but wonder if there would be a market for a paid news service that delivers the facts - unbiased and honest.

One day 'the people' will realise that the media barons, dictate public sentiment and decide who rules the land...Murdoch decides who we vote for - its quite simple really, if 'he' wants a labor government next he'll bias the coverage in favor of Labor and vice versa.

People decide what they like and dislike by what they read in the papers, after all, they speak the truth :unknown: :sarcasm: and that is the source of daily news and knowledge  for so many.

You didnt know you despised puppy farm until they told you.... (that you should hate puppy farms), right?
Didnt know you hated Trump... until they told you he's a bigot and wants all muslims banned from entry (even though they manipulated what he said) right?

Just like so many didnt know we needed tougher gun laws in Australia....until they reported this incident and tacked on the poll....

If they added that rainbow colored streamers and marshmellows were falling from the sky.... how many people would actually check? none, some or many??

in the wake of orlando...... do you think AUSTRALIAN immigration screenings should be tightened?

in the wake of orlando...... do you think AUSTRALIAN mental health system should be better funded?

in the wake of orlando...... do you think AUSTRALIAN intelligence should be better equipped?

Why don't we see polls like this ey? (Not saying that it should or shouldn't... but these things are almost always focused on Guns only)

Very good, and very relevant questions indeed! Have you fowarded them to the newspapers?
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Thanks noisydad - but no I haven't. Asking the newspapers why they are asking questions about guns and not the other questions is like asking a politician to comment on something they wish to hide and expecting a straight forward answer. ;)

But asking these questions online, social media, etc I think is more powerful. Just getting other people to ask "Yeah - why is it that newspapers only target guns" and encouraging more people to think for themselves on this issue is probably far more effective than telling them. And the more people that question the motives of the news media - the better.

Considering the Orlando shooter is an American Born U.S citizen, wasa security guard employed by G4S and was vetted by them as well as the FBI (then questioned by FBI two more times) I think the only relevent question in that list is about mental health. From reports by his former wife and work mates he appears to at least be a candidate for N.PD, A.P.D or B.P.D.

I hae how they ask these questions, 90% of Australians know absolutely dick about our gun laws. Might as well ask them which Eskimo should be running the local ice shop. How about they ask people who are affected by the laws, see what they say

Not surprisingly that pulled the same stunt, ran a poll after PAM back in 1996, BEFORE the blood had even dried 'The Age' asked Australians the 'difficult' questions;

In an Age poll of 2058 Australians taken on 3-5 May 1996, 90 per cent of those surveyed supported a national ban on all automatic and semi-automatic firearms, 88 per cent supported firearms registration, 73 per cent thought that gun owners should pay an annual registration fee for each gun they own, and 69 per cent thought that gun owners should be required to store their guns at an armoury or with the police.....

Aiming directly to the emotions....OF COURSE the sheeple want SOMETHING done....

Move 20yrs into the future....50 people are dead (so we're told) and they ask the same question.... "Ban all gun, think of the children.... thing of the LBGTBis...think of <insert current interest group> What are 'the people' going to say?? No...more guns??

Ask the same question.... in 6 months and a different answer will be seen...

As far as the Age poll of 2,000 people - it has been quoted since then as the voice of the people.......justification for the little jonnie laws.....

I like the 2% unsure. Nice to see that at least some of the population (even if a small minority) has enough wisdom and sense to know that they don't have enough information about firearms to make an informed decision and will not vote on emotion alone.

Would be nice if this number could increase. I have no problems with people admitting ignorance on a matter - far better than proclaiming understanding and knowledge on something they know jack about. (most of the other 42%)...

People I'm sorry that the act of TERRORISM that took place on American soil is being used to make further attempts at eroding your ability to enjoy firearms. Now though it is needless to say, although I will say it any way, this act of TERRORISM is being used to attack our American Rights under our Constitution.

Here may be some talking points to think over. Two different times Mateen was under investigation for his activities, but these were stopped when it became clear that they were going down the "Islamic Radicalism" route, since the Obama Administration forbids even thinking that such exists. Mateen not only passed the required background checks but was in fact a former contracted security person with Homeland Security Administration. And lastly the rifle he used was not an AR format rifle but instead it was a SIG-Sauer MCX, a rifle that's only commonality was the caliber and that magazines will interchange.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."
