Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forum and look forward to sharing ideas, particularly from the more experienced members.
I carry a Winchester .22 magnum lever action with a Schmidt & Bender scope.
Apart from my experience in the Armed Forces and a few bunnies for the pot when I was younger, I now enjoy the occasional club target shooting.
Looking forward to meeting you all on the forum.

Hey all,

I just joined up.

I'm from the backwoods of Arkansas, USA. I really like shooting. I'm a handloader. I cast my own lead bullets for both rifles and handguns. I even reload shotgun shells. But my main interest is with Wildcat and odd ball cartridges. I have been in contact with some of your countrymen discussing the 9.5 x 57 MS (375 Rimless Nitro Express 2 21/4") and I would like to learn more about the wildcat cartridges in Australia.

Hi everyone hope your all fine and dandy Don is my name,

Only just joined up on here so just introducing myself a little as well as firing a quick question off to ya legends,

I'm new to hunting since only acquiring my firearms license and rifles and haven't been shooting for long now,
Did a lot of shooting for pest, when I was a boy 25yrs or so ago but now I'm wanting to get into the hunt for big game, all set on pretty much everything needed except hearing protection as I've heard about noise cancelling ear buds and sound enhancing?

Would be greatly appreciated if some legend's could fill me in about decent protection and heighten sounds equipment or what you have used before.

I can't advise on that particular type of hearing protection. But just let you know the USA, NRR rate of protection is not the same as the AU SLC80.
NRR is a significantly lower level of hearing protection.

Example, 27db (reduction to the ear) in slc80 is equal to 34nrr. That's a huge difference.

Many shooters buy muffs quoted as a 25 nrr ratings thinking they are class 4, but they are really only class 3 under our system.

To get a true class 5 (the best) you need an nrr rating of 33. Rare as rocking horse sh1t.

Well, depends how close to Tenterfield you are, or on the Texas-Gundy side.

Hey guys I'm a contract shooter in S.E NSW for primary producers. I live on my own rural farm and love shooting so much I run a feral control shooting and trapping for fellow working farmers. lurked this forum for near a decade, actually think I've seen a few old mates from back on Arborist site on here too, back when I was young stupid swinging to many chainsaws. cheers

Hey all. First off thank you to everyone who's contributed here over the years.
There is a wealth of opinions and experience burried in some of these threads, it's truely amazing.
Some wise and very helpful people on here!

I've always worked in IT and I'll admit it now, to get it out of the way, I'm a sponge for information aka a nerd.
Sorry in advance for any less than straight forward question.

I had some shooting experience when very young, gone on spotlighting trips for fox/hare/rabbbits and I even got to do some field and game days, tons of fun even if I was being out shot by a 12 year old and his 80+ grandfather on more than one occasion

A few months back a friend/proprety owner telling me he had put up trail cams on his property to see what was going on there.... Samba every night!
*queue the gears turning in my head*

One peice of advice I seemed to have picked up along the way and strugle with constantly is: have a goal - and don't lose focus

*Harvest samba for meat
*Shoot PR at some level

These goals are meant to stop me buying firearms I don't need..... It..... hasn't worked too well thus far.
I've also be diving head first into reloading which is super interesting.

I'm Rob, from South Australia, and at the ripe age of 48, I've decided after many years to take up shooting.and hunting/pest control. I haven't fired a rifle for many years, being my uncle's old .22LR. Now, the kids have just about all grown up, and i can get a bit of time for myself, time to get out and get shooting. My wife is also talking of doing a bit of shooting together. I plan on, starting at a local range (when i find it), and then gradually go out for some hunting or get rid of some feral cats, foxes, rabbits etc. Thinking of starting with the ever reliable .22, and then step up to .223.

Thanks, Oldbloke. Been wanting to get into shooting for many years, but life sort got in the way of that. Now, i'm nearly 50, and the kids have all pretty much grown up, it's time for me and the missus to do the things we want to do.
